The choir director studied music and German language and literature studies and is working today as conductor of several highly qualified choirs. For the work with his choirs, he got valuable stimulus through his long lasting cooperation with semi-professional choirs (like Kammerchor Stuttgart, studio vocale Karlsruhe) and numerous continuing education (i.e. with Eric Ericson, Volker Hempfling and Wolfgang Schäfer). During the recent years, he and his choirs became 1. price laureates of many important international choir contests (i.e. Arezzo, Tours , Riva del Garda, Verona, Praha, Trelew (Argentina), Heythusen (Netherlands), Kleipeda (Lithuania). Furthermore, he and Cantabile Limburg won the first price at the international broadcasting contest “Let the peoples sing” from BBC in 1995. At these contests, he received many awards from the jury for his exceptional and artistic performance.
For the first time in the history of the German Choir Contest, Jürgen Faßbender received first prices with both of his choirs (“Carpe diem” and “Cantabile Limburg”) in the extra categories for male and female choir in 1994 in Fulda. Both choirs additionally got an award each for the extraordinary interpretation of a contemporary choir opus. In 1995, Jürgen Faßbender became scholarship holder of the German Music Council and received an invitation to Eric Ericson’s masterclass on the occasion of the 1. European Choir Symposium in Ljubljana.
Since then he got innumerous invitations to act as a juror at many national and international choir contests, as guest conductor (County Youth Choir of Rhineland-Palatinate, German-Polish Choir Academy “In terra pax”) and as a tutor and workshop conductor, particularly in the female and male choir section (Europa cantat, World Assembly of Choirs “Zimriya” Jerusalem, Landesmusikakademie Rheinland-Pfalz, Chorverband Vorarlberg, Hessischer Sängerbund, Bayrischer Sängerbund, Deutsch-Polnische Chorakademie, Chorakademie Siena, Musica Mundi, Choratelier des Internationalen Kammerchorwettbewerbs Marktoberdorf).
Besides radio and television recordings with the HR, BR and SWF, the choir presented its first CD “Männergesang” in 1996 (published by Carus-Verlag, Stuttgart). On the occasion of the laureate concert of the German Choir Contest in 1998 in Regensburg, additional live CDs with contemporary music of both choirs were produced.
Both choirs are always given a warm welcome at famous concert series and festivals like Internationale Bach-Tage Berlin, Internationale Orgelwoche Nürnberg, Kasseler Musiktage, Pfingstmusiktage Lauterbach, Festspiele Toulouse, International Kathaumixw Powell River/Canada, International Choral Festival Cork/Ireland, Chorfestival Tolosa/Spain as well as “Florilege Vocal des Tours”/France and the Choir Festval in Londrina/Brasil.
Furthermore, Jürgen Faßbender is a member of the German Federal Music Commission of the Hessian Singers’ Association (Hessischer Sängerbund), the Music Council of the German Center for Choir Music (Musikbeirat des Deutschen Centrums für Chormusik) as well as of the literature commission of the German Choir Competition. Besides that he is a welcomed guest author of the “International Choral Bulletin” of the IFCM and of “Lied und Chor”.
Since 2008 he is the music art director from "Landesjugendchor Hessen". In 2012, he was appointed to the World Choir Council as one of the three German representatives of this global committee.
